World’s Fair Wednesday – Expo ’75

Expo ’75 was held in Okinawa, Japan.  This expo was created to commemorate the transfer of Okinawa from American to Japan in 1972.  The focus of this year’s festival was the ocean, and the motto was “the sea we would like to see.”

In addition to the inspiringly simple logo, the design of many of the pavilions deserves a look. Here are some postcards, kept at worldsfairphotos:

Aquapolis

 

This is the Aquapolis, the centerpiece of the Expo. A  floating city! The building design and logo treatment of the USA and USSR pavilions are even better:

That fountain at the USSR pavilion is no slouch, either.
