Expo ’70 was held in Osaka, Japan. More of a festival than an exposition, the theme of Expo ’70 was Progress and Harmony for Mankind. 64 million people attended, making it one of the most successful expositions in history. The US put a moon rock on display, Germany developed the first spherical concert hall, and the National Film Board of Canada provided an animated cartoon by Kaj Pindal called “The City”. “The City” highlighted the Canadian people developing the wilderness of Canada with the latest technologies. Love the idea or hate it, this is a pretty great snapshot of that better-living-through-technology mindset of the ’60s and ’70s, and a pretty sweet animated short at that.
